Student-Run The Academy Restaurant Reopens

THE restaurant staffed by students from The City of Liverpool College has reopened for a new term after gaining a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor. The Academy, in Tradewind Square, just off Duke Street, is a hidden gem and offers mouth-watering menus of British and European food, which are traditional favourites with a modern twist. The college’s Executive Chef Ian Jaundoo leads a kitchen staff of students studying for a career in the catering and hospitality industry. With the new college term in full swing, the students, with Ian’s help, have compiled a new autumn menu after celebrating being awarded a Certificate of Excellence by Trip Advisor earlier this year. The online review site of Britain’s best loved and loathed hotels, restaurants, bars and attractions, gave the accolade to The Academy because it consistently receives outstanding reviews. The new autumn menus, which includes taster, bar and lunch menus, features salmon with pak choi, wild mushroom saute, gratin potatoes and tomato dressing, roasted duck breast, risotto, roasted lamb rump, haddock goujons and chips, chilli bowls, hot open sandwiches, amuse bouche and a selection of decadant desserts. Executive Chef Ian Jaundoo said: “We are incredibly proud of the catering and hospitality provision that we have at the college. We are a leading provider of staff in industry in the UK and that is because of our strong links with employers and awarding bodies up and down the country. “Our students have gone on to earn Michelin-stars, work with top chefs and open there own restaurants as well as cook delicious food at their own independent eateries, like The Buyers Club, in Liverpool. “The next generation is being moulded in the kitchens of The Academy and the classrooms of the college and with dedication and hard work they will become great chefs. “The Academy is once again open for business and we pride ourselves on being a hidden gem- even with the recognition from Trip Advisor, which is true testament to the talent we have for cooking and hospitality in Liverpool.” The Academy is open for lunch Tuesday to Friday 12 Noon – 2pm (last orders 1.10pm), on Wednesday there are Themed Dinners from 6.30pm and Thursday and Friday Bistro Dinners from 6pm & last orders 7.45pm For table reservations call: 0151 252 4512 bookings are taken from 12 Noon each day.
