Freeport board members wanted for Liverpool City Region

LEP Chair Asif Hamid MBE

THE Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and Combined Authority are recruiting for a Freeport Chair and a number of board members to join the Freeport Board.

The board will play a fundamental role in driving forward the Government’s three key objectives for Freeports:

  • Establishing a national hub for Global Trade & Investment
  • Encouraging regeneration and economic growth
  • Facilitating and encouraging innovation

A Free Trade Zone for the City Region will contribute around £850m GVA and create 14,000 jobs, as well as lead on solutions to meet the regions Net Zero Carbon targets for 2040.

The multi-gateway, multi-modal Freeport will enable key sites across the Liverpool City Region to attract new investment, create jobs, support the wider economy and increase levels of innovation. It also has the potential for future opportunities in hydrogen, offshore wind and tidal power, ensuring the City Region becomes a global beacon for investment in renewable technologies.

Applications are welcome from all interested parties with a desire to ensure the delivery of a successful Freeport for the Liverpool City Region. Specifically, the LEP would like to hear from people who have expertise in areas such as trade and investment, finance and tax planning, property development, project management, freight and customs and human resources.

Asif Hamid MBE, Chair of the Liverpool City Region LEP said: “We were delighted back in March when it was announced Liverpool City Region was moving onto the development of a full business case to become one of the UK Freeports This is a significant opportunity for the City Region, creating new investment, further regeneration and redevelopment opportunities through tax and duty efficiencies in the freeport zone.

“This is an incredible opportunity to help drive our economy forward and we are keen to speak to passionate individuals who think their skills would help deliver a globally competitive Freeport.”
