A NEW landmark mural honouring Captain Mike Lowe, one of the Mersey’s most respected ferry captains, has been unveiled at the Master Mariner Bar in New Brighton.
Created by Merseyside artist BREZ (Adam Bresnen), the artwork celebrates Captain Lowe’s life of service to the river and marks the first public project by New Brighton Creative Futures CIC, a not-for-profit arts organisation using creativity, design and collaboration to drive community regeneration.
Supported by Cammell Laird as key sponsor and with The Guide Liverpool as media partner, the mural depicts Captain Lowe at the helm on the bridge of the Royal Iris ferry, with the Liverpool waterfront visible through the bridge windows. The composition places him in his working environment – instruments, wheel, and river – a concise portrait of a lifetime on the Mersey and a celebration of service, skill, and place.

This mural is our way of saying thank you while he can see it, enjoy it, and feel the community’s appreciation. It stands for the values that built this place and the creative energy shaping what comes next.”

The Captain Mike Lowe mural is the first in a new wave of public artworks planned by New Brighton Creative Futures for 2026, each celebrating the people, spirit and creativity that define New Brighton and Merseyside today.
