HAVING opened its doors back in 2010, Viva Brazil has become one of Liverpool’s food gems, standing strong as one of Castle Street’s oldest resident restaurants.
Offering an authentic Brazilian dining experience, with 14 different cuts of meat from steak to pork and chicken you’re sure to find something to suit your taste. There’s even a kid’s offering and separate A La Carte menus with a selection of vegan, fish and vegetarian dishes.
On a recent visit, we were greeted at our table by a waiter who explained the concept (if you don’t know, there’s a discreet red / green disc operation which signals the team to bring you more or no food), and offered us a classic São Paulo cocktail – a Caipirinha. Not for the faint hearted, but hard to resist with three or four flavours on offer!
The salad bar is varied, with lighter bites and salads as well as some heavy carbs and hot offerings – it would be easy to fill up on this alone. It’s fresh and fantastic quality. Remind yourself to save space on the plate
Less than a minute after sitting down, the meat started to arrive. We weren’t rushed at all and we were asked if there was anything we specifically enjoyed, and would like more of. I particularly enjoyed the sausages and chicken wings, while my colleague was a fan of the steak cuts and pineapple with cinnamon (yes you read that right – and yes you have to try it)!
Deputy general manger Marc Trousdale says the restaurant’s secret to success is consistent great food paired with great service. “Every person who walks thought the door needs to feel like they’re welcome. Unlike traditional restaurants, our food servers are constantly approaching tables, they’re a part of the dining experience.
“They’re able to expertly cut and serve meat while answering questions, checking everyone is enjoying themselves and keeping up the great atmosphere we’re known so well for.”
Speaking of atmosphere, Castle Street has become quote a foodie hub in the last few years, a far cry from the quiet road with a couple of bars when Viva Brazil opened its doors 14 years ago.
“It’s fantastic to see the street buzzing,” adds Marc. “Castle Street is the home to some of the best restaurants in the city and it’s just getting better and better. Having been a part of it for so long, Viva Brazil always welcomes our neighbours. Hospitality has had a rough ride in recent years so to see such life and excitement right outside our front doors is amazing.”
This is an immersive, fun dining experience offering delicious food cooked fresh. It’s perfect for larger groups, as there’s something for everyone and no waiting around for long food orders. Highly recommended.
We didn’t have room for dessert – although I doubt many people do after such a feast.
