Liverpool ONE sets the scene for most successful Christmas yet

With an 8% sales growth forecast for this Christmas, setting Liverpool ONE ahead of all previous records and bucking the trends across the UK. Footfall remains strong, performing on average 10 points ahead of the UK benchmark, whilst sales growth is being seen across several categories including fashion, beauty, athleisure restaurants and in particular entertainment.

The event saw more than 500 performers kicking off the festive season. Liverpool ONE Christmas LIVE! featured pop-up pantomimes, singing elves, Santa and a record number of local young people across the region. Working with Liverpool Empire’s Creative Learning team alongside the Liverpool Empire Youth Theatre Academy, 250 pupils from 20 schools and colleges across Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, St Helens, Warrington, Halton and Sefton, have been at the heart of the Christmas event with a number of performances exclusively for Liverpool ONE Christmas LIVE!
The event gave around 80,000 visitors throughout the day the unique opportunity to catch a sneak peek of the festive performances. The line-up included the cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Wind in the Willows, Sleeping Beauty and Peter Pan.

The night was hosted by some familiar faces, including Radio City’s Leanne Campbell and Alex Toal; Jay Hynd and Gemma Cutting from The Guide Liverpool; Lizzie Acker from Channel 4’s 2021 season of ‘The Great British Bake Off’; and Liverpool actress and comedian, Kay Nicholson.

Donna Howitt, Place Strategy Director at Liverpool ONE, said: “We look forward to our Christmas launch night every year at Liverpool ONE, and this year has been made extra special thanks to the record number of local young people taking centre stage at our event.

“Seeing visitors enjoying themselves and getting into the festive spirit tonight sets the scene for what we are confident will be the strongest Christmas period in our history, bucking trends in the UK.”

Liverpool ONE also launched a special Christmas Trail, offering youngsters the chance to discover illuminated reindeers, angel wings, Christmas trees and festive characters hidden in shop windows.

Running until 1st January, those completing the trail will get a free sticker sheet and the chance to win a £250 Liverpool ONE gift card.
