LIVERPOOL is set to be bathed in more warm sunshine over the coming days with temperatures potentially reaching over 30c. This follows on from last month’s record-breaking heatwave which saw the UK reach a temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius for the very first time.
Despite the hot weather this weekend gym goers will still be looking to put in a session in the gym to stay on track with their goals.
To keep cool and to be safe while exercising inside the gym or outside during summer heatwaves, the team at ABS have shared three simple tips to think about before you head out.
Don’t over do it in the gym
It will be important to not overexert yourself when you’re exercising. If you begin to feel lightheaded you may have pushed yourself too hard in the workout.
To combat this, ensure you take longer rest periods and water breaks and try to monitor the intensity you set for yourself. Lowering the intensity will help you stay cooler and should allow you to exercise more safely.
Second, think about what you wear
Lighter weight, breathable clothing should make a difference when working out during a heatwave. So, try to wear clothing that will keep you as cool as possible for the duration of your workout.
Hydration is key
One of the most important things to do if you’re exercising and, even if you are not – make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay as hydrated as possible.
You should be aiming for at least 2-4 litres daily. It might be good to invest in a reusable water bottle that shows the amount of water you are drinking so you can keep track and hit that 2-4 litres aim.
