City on the hunt for experts to attract major sporting events

LIVERPOOL City Council is looking to appoint experts who can play a pivotal role in bringing major sporting events to the city.

Following in the footsteps of hosting the Netball World Cup in 2019, the BISFED Boccia World Championships in 2018 and of course the World Gymnastics Championships 2022 later this year, Liverpool is on the hunt for a team of experts who can position Liverpool at the forefront of bids to stage more blue riband events.

The individuals would join the Sport Liverpool Board which is an independent forum of experts already tasked with achieving sports events success for the city. The Board provides advice and recommendations on how Liverpool can deliver a strategy which would see the city host major sporting events.

One of the key responsibilities would be to oversee activity around events which take place in the city, ensuring there’s a boost to the local economy and to civic pride. Ensuring inclusion and sustainability is at the heart of the events is key, as is leaving a sporting legacy for future generations.

Candidates should ideally have significant experience of working in the sporting sector and have previously worked at a strategic leadership level. As part of the role the successful individual will be expected to attend board meetings, events and be a spokesperson in the run up to major events.

Liverpool is particularly keen to receive applications from people with disabilities, people with ethnically diverse backgrounds and people from the LGBTQ+ community.

The successful applicants will receive expenses, but not an allowance, or remuneration.

More information can be found here and the closing date is 23 March.
