Local homebuilder donates buddy bench to school

THORNTON homebuilder Barratt Homes has donated a friendship bench to St William of York Catholic Primary School in Sefton.

Close to the developer’s Sundial Place development, the school has received a friendship bench, inscribed with ‘We sit, we chat and ask each other questions. We leave as friends, with all good intentions’, for children to use when they need to talk to someone.

Martin Murphy, Headteacher at St William of York Catholic Primary School, said: “The playground is the perfect location to place this beautiful bench and the children will be encouraged to chat to their friends and socialise whilst using it. The bench is a welcome addition to our grounds.”

Philippa Stewart, Head of Sales at Barratt Homes North West, said: “Being open about mental health and challenging the stigma from a young age is extremely important.

“We hope that by donating a friendship bench, children at St William of York Catholic Primary School will have the chance to talk openly to each other and staff about how they’re feeling.”
