New board aims for growth in city region

A NEW board designed to support and stimulate economic growth across all sectors in the Liverpool City Region has been established.

The Built Environment Board (BEB) is part of Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership and is a senior leadership group bringing together private and public sector partners from the wider ‘built environment community’ – defined as places and spaces created by people to live or work.

In the short term, the board will be focussed in the city region’s economic recovery but will also look at informing longer term growth, productivity and competitiveness. It will particularly encourage collaboration and oversee a strategic plan for the built environment across the region to have a sustainable future.

The board members come from a wide range of backgrounds and represent many different types of business, including construction, architecture, engineering, social enterprise and property development plus representation from universities and local authorities.

The BEB will also look to access private and public sector funding streams, identify gaps in existing government support, forge strong connections at a national level and develop new programmes to accelerate business growth.

Peter Grieve, chair of the Built Environment Board and operations director at Robertson North West, said: “I’m looking forward to working with the new board members who have a vast range of experience and diversity from across the city region and provides a wealth of knowledge to be drawn upon. The built environment agenda is an important one, but now more than ever, in a pandemic crisis and beyond, it is vital that we can support and guide the city region in moving forward in its growth.”

Asif Hamid MBE, chair of the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, commented: “Now, more than ever, we will be looking towards businesses leaders and experts in their field to guide and inform us through this recovery period. I am confident this new board will provide stability and a support platform across all sectors and develop a strong, sustainable vision and plan for the future of the built environment across the region.”
