Festive fun for the family at the Maritime Dining Room this Christmas

FAMILIES from across the region are invited to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year at one of Liverpool’s most iconic buildings, courtesy of Hosted by National Museums Liverpool.

Located on the fourth floor of Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Maritime Dining Room will be given a sprinkling of Christmas magic this December, with two events devised especially with children in mind.

Guests of all ages can kick start the countdown to Christmas at the stunning waterfront venue as part of a special bauble-making event on 1 December. Paired with a delicious sharing Sunday lunch – prepared by an in-house team of chefs – the event promises a crafty day out perfect for the whole family.

Children and big kids alike can enjoy a traditional roast dinner with all of the trimmings while getting into the festive spirit with a creative activity. Guests can make the most of quality time with loved ones and will each leave with a hand-crafted bauble; the ideal addition to any Christmas tree.

Menu highlights include classic turkey roulade, cranberry and apricot stuffing wrapped in streaky bacon, maple-glazed roast ham or a vegetarian roasted butternut squash, chestnut and sage crumb, and Tunworth cheese. For dessert, diners can enjoy milk chocolate and bourbon bread pudding, with vanilla and bourbon custard and a Christmas cherry and fig pavlova with Chantilly cream.

On 21 December, guests are invited to continue the merriments with a specially-curated afternoon tea. Families can enjoy a Christmas-style crafter-noon tea, take part in an ‘Elf Masterclass’ and meet Santa himself, all in the historic surroundings of the Grade I listed Merseyside Maritime Museum.

Little ones can learn all about the North Pole from Santa’s best elves, including the secret to looking after Rudolph and his fellow reindeer. Every child will receive a training certificate to commemorate the day.

Bookings include a selection of freshly-prepared sandwiches, cakes and patisserie and a complimentary gift for each child.

Crafty Sunday lunch will take place between 12-4pm on 1 December 2019 and is priced at £19.95 for adults or £15.95 for children.

Afternoon tea with Santa will be held on 21 December with sittings at 12pm and 2.30pm, priced at £17.95 for adults or £11.95 for children.

Pre-booking is essential for these events. Every purchase supports National Museums Liverpool.
