MERSEY Care NHS Foundation Trust has been awarded the Employers Armed Forces Covenant Bronze Award in recognition of its support for the armed forces.
It recognises Mersey Care’s work as a military friendly employer in supporting the armed forces community and those who have served or are serving reservists and commits the trust to the Government’s Employer Recognition Scheme.
“We value the skills and competencies that armed forces veterans, reservists and their families bring to the Trust, including the expert knowledge and understanding they can bring to the care we provide to veteran service users,” said Mr Rafferty.
“Mersey Care has a proud tradition of working alongside veterans groups and reservists, which includes having a former military hospital from the First and Second World Wars on our Whalley site, so this recognition is a proud moment for everyone involved.”
The Trust, as a founding member of the newly-formed Mental Health Sub-Group of the Veteran Aware Hospitals Alliance, is striving to offer the best care for veterans in mental and physical health and wellbeing.
This includes committing to the Armed Forces Covenant, raising awareness among staff of veterans’ healthcare needs and establishing clear links with service charities and local support providers.
Mersey Care has also joined the Veteran Aware Hospitals Alliance, which showcases high quality veterans’ healthcare and supports NHS hospitals to learn from each other by sharing best practice.
