In photos: Liverpool captured in 24 hours

A DAY in the life of Liverpool has been captured in a 24-hour social experiment that saw more than 50 professional and amateur Liverpool-based photographers take to the streets on Saturday 20th October to capture the life and times of the city in 2018.

The ‘A Day In The Life’ project documented the unique people and places that make Liverpool so special: from the passion of its football fans and its glamorous Saturday shoppers; to its stunning architecture and its cutting edge artistic creations.

Led by award-winning street photographer, Mark Waugh, the photographers covered the length and breadth of Liverpool, generating over 1,000 images, taking one every two minutes between midnight to midnight.

Over the course of the day, the 50-strong team of photographers recorded:

  • Morning strollers enjoying the glorious Liverpool seafront
  • Buskers entertaining the people revelling in the lively Liverpool nightlife
  • Commuters travelling to and from Liverpool Lime Street Station
  • Colourful street performers bringing a smile to Bold Street
  • Saturday shoppers being entertained by street acrobats
  • Families exploring the picturesque Albert Docks

The next stage of A Day In The Life will see an artist take a selection of photographs from each of the photographers that took part and transform them collectively into a piece of art, so the people, places and memories of 20th October 2018 can be immortalised. The artwork will be displayed, once complete, in Liverpool city centre. Dates of the exhibition will be announced on https://www.cartridgesave.co.uk/printwhatmatters/a-day-in-life-liverpool/

Inspired by the blog, Humans Of New York, which has 8.3 million Instagram followers and 18 million Facebook followers, ‘A Day In The Life’ is the brainchild of cartridgesave.co.uk.

Ian Cowley, managing director of cartridgesave.co.uk, says: “It’s been amazing to capture A Day In The Life through the lens of some of the city’s most talented amatuer and professional photographers. Through their eyes we have an incredible visual library of the everything that makes Liverpool one of the UK’s most exciting cities in 2018: its people, its passion, its places.

“We can’t wait to immortalise the memories captured into a piece of art that forever commemorates this day in Liverpool’s history.”

Mark Waugh added: “20th October 2018 will now be forever remembered in Liverpool. Through this project we’ve captured a day in the city’s history, including the characters and the amazing landscape that makes the city a very special place.”
