AWARD-winning disability and D/deaf arts organisation DaDaFest announces Merseyside wide festival this November.
DaDaFest International will take place from 1 November – 8 December 2018 showcasing artwork. With over 50 events, this year’s festival will be bigger and better this year.
This year’s festival theme is Passing: What is your legacy? which continues a 10 year journey for the organisation using the prefix ’trans’.
The theme explores notions created by ‘transpire’ with ‘Passing’ capturing the many different aspects of our life’s journeys. The festival will also commemorate the end of WWI as a key moment for modern recognition of disability as a social construct.
Artistic Director for DaDaFest, Ruth Gould says: “The programme includes moments that affirm, celebrate and inform on the very essence of what it is to be disabled, Deaf, young, old as all of us are part of the human race.”
As part of the festival, DaDaFest has announced that acclaimed performer Jess Thom will be showcasing Samuel Beckett’s Not I at Bluecoat in Liverpool on 23 and 24 November.
Not I is the story of a woman’s life told at top speed by a disembodied character, ‘Mouth’. A Touretteshero and Battersea Arts Centre production in association with the Albany, this neurodiverse presentation of Not I sees Thom reclaiming Mouth as a disabled character.
All performances will be Relaxed and BSL interpreted.
The full DaDaFest International programme will be announced early autumn.
