Call goes out to social entrepreneurs as collaborative working space re-launches

A COLLABORATIVE workspace in Liverpool catering for dynamic start-up businesses is reinventing itself three years after it helped transform the city’s business culture.

‘LAB by Capacity’, in the heart of the city’s central business district, has put out the call to Liverpool City Region’s social entrepreneurs to come and pitch their transformational ideas to a panel of experts.

What was Launch 22 opened on Tithebarn Street in summer 2015, bringing the concept of collaborative working to Liverpool – an idea that has now been replicated in other parts of the city.

Now, in the spirit of change, the space is evolving into ‘LAB by Capacity’ and will  operate under the new name from this month.

It will still offer the same co-working ethos where like-minded entrepreneurs and creatives come together to exchange ideas and encourage each other to thrive and grow.

However, the new team at LAB by Capacity say they have a brand new vision for the space and are particularly keen to reach out to social businesses and charities. They have unveiled a specially-designed incubator space, where they hope to help social businesses develop and grow.

They are also offering tailored accelerator programmes designed to make businesses operate more efficiently, learn from established businesses and prepare their pitch for government contracts and funding

To mark the relaunch, LAB by Capacity is calling out to Merseyside’s social entrepreneurs to pitch their social business ideas to a panel of experts later this month for a chance to win a cash prize and opportunity to secure investment from Capacity stakeholders.

Head of operations at LAB, Chris Witterick, said: “Launch 22 was a real trailblazer for Liverpool when it opened its doors three years ago and now LAB by Capacity is taking the concept to a new level, feeding off the ever-growing appetite in the city for social entrepreneurship.”

“So later this month we will be holding a ‘Social Pitch Night’ where social entrepreneurs can pitch their ideas to a panel of experts. It is the ideal opportunity to talk about how your business idea will positively impact the community and deliver social value.”

“The winning pitch will be rewarded with a three-month membership at LAB, a cash prize and a potential investment in the enterprise.”

The first Social Pitch Night will take place on Thursday, 28 June and will be followed by a series of events and workshops specifically tailored for social enterprise and start-up businesses, designed to offer strategic advice and support to bolster growth.

Members of LAB will have full access to those events, as well as shared workspace, private meeting rooms and all the tea and coffee you like. LAB also offer a mentor programme, working alongside leading members  of Liverpool’s private sector business community whose combined experiences offer a great degree of insight into the world of commerce and enterprise.
