Book of Condolence presented to Doddy’s widow Lady Anne

By Bob Edwards

A BOOK of Condolence with more than 800 tributes to Sir Ken Dodd was handed over to his widow Lady Anne Dodd by Cllr Malcolm Kennedy the Lord Mayor of Liverpool today.

The heart-warming messages were left at Liverpool Town Hall in the days following Sir Ken’s death in March by people from the city and as far afield as Australia, Canada, the USA, Spain, France and even Venezuela. The specially bound volume also contains photographs of Sir Ken and Lady Anne was delighted to receive it.

The Lord Mayor said to Lady Anne””In Liverpool’s mind Sir Ken is still with us and I am proud to be handing this over to you. It was such a pleasure to know him and such a privilege as well and I’m proud to hand over this memorial from the people of Liverpool.”

Accepting the leather bound volume Lady Anne said” “This is absolutely wonderful. It’s so beautifully bound and I’ve had a little look through at some of the messages, it’s quite incredible if I read them out now it would certainly bring tears to your eyes. There is so much love and memories people have, everybody seems to have met him.”

The Lord Mayor recalled being with Sir Ken at the re-opening of St John’s Market, he told us Sir Ken said” I’ve never held hands with a councillor” as he took his hand and walked with him to the stage.

Lady Anne said previously: “My eternal thanks go out to all those who paid homage to my dear Ken on his sad passing and I am comforted by the wonderful messages written by so many in such a special book of condolence. I really cannot find enough suitable words to tell everyone what this means to myself and Ken’s family.”
