The Kite Runner returns to the Playhouse following West End success

THE Liverpool Playhouse is to welcome home its co-production of The Kite Runner for five nights after a second successful West End run at London’s Wyndham Theatre.

Based on the bestselling novel by Khaled Hosseini, The Kite Runner is a powerful story of two friends Amir and Hassan and embarks on a UK tour this year.

The co-production with Nottingham Playhouse was adapted for the stage by playwright Matthew Spangler and is directed by Giles Croft.

A haunting tale of friendship which spans cultures and continents, it follows one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption.

Afghanistan is a divided country on the verge of war and two childhood friends Hassan and Amir are about to be torn apart. On a beautiful afternoon in Kabul, the skies are full of the excitement and joy of a kite flying tournament. But neither Hassan nor Amir can foresee the terrible incident which will shatter their lives forever.

Narrating through the voice of central character Amir is Raj Ghatak. He is joined by Jo Ben Ayed playing the role of Amir’s friend Hassan.

Gary Pillai (Baba), Sorosh Lavasin (Assef), Ravi Aujla (General Taheri), Amiera Darwish (Soraya) (Ali), Oliver Gyani, Rez Kabir, Umar Pasha, Jay Sajji, Karl Seth (Rahim Khan) and Danielle Woodnutt complete the casting for the 2018 tour.

The production of The Kite Runner features live music by Hanif Khan. An international artist, Hanif is a professional tabla player – a traditional percussion instrument used in the Middle East that provides the soundtrack for the show.

The Kite Runner visits the Playhouse from 27 February to 3 March. Tickets are available at: or by calling the Everyman & Playhouse Box Office on 0151 709 4776.
