Liverpool Peace Proms returns to Liverpool on Saturday 27 January

OVER 2,000 children from Primary Schools all over Liverpool will descend in the Echo Area next week for Peace Proms 2018. The children will form the Liverpool Children’s Peace Choir and are part of a wider internationally recognised Arts & Peace initiative which actively engages almost 30,000 school children in the UK and Ireland each year.

The concert will be conducted by internationally acclaimed UK music educator Greg Beardsell who is renowned for his extraordinary ability to lead powerful and exhilarating performances and is one of the most outstanding and inspirational conductors of his generation. The musical programme is tailor made to ensure it is fun and engaging for children. It includes family favourites like Disney and Pop Medleys, and powerful peace anthems like Michael Jackson’s ‘Earth Song’, and ‘You’re the Voice’ by John Farnham.

Sharon Treacey Dunne, the organiser for Peace Proms said: “The Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland was set up in 1995, shortly after the cessation of violence in Northern Ireland, as a peace initiative. The idea was to unite young people from Catholic and Protestant communities on both sides of the Irish Border, through music. This was a very difficult time Ireland’s political and cultural history, and the project was met with suspicion and opposition at the outset. However, with perseverance, the Cross Border Orchestra began to thrive and is now recognised internationally as a flagship Peace Initiative. Over time, peace took a stronger foothold in Northern Ireland, and almost 15 years ago it was decided to extend the project and establish a choral education programme called ‘Peace Proms’. The name ‘Peace Proms’ represents a walk through the history of Ireland towards Peace.”

This is a superb choral and orchestral production, and is suitable for all the family – young and old!  The specially formed Liverpool Children’s Peace Choir, will star alongside Ireland’s most celebrated youth symphony orchestra – the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland as well as a stellar line up of champion Soloists, Dancers and Pipers.

Tickets are priced at £13pp for groups / £15pp for family / £17.50 general
