High-five for MIB shortlist after record-breaking nominations

TIGERS, Treasures and Bluebirds come together to make up the shortlist for this year’s Merseyside Independent Business Awards.

Every corner of the Liverpool City Region, from Southport and St Helens to Heswall and Knowsley, is represented on the eclectic-sounding shortlist, which features 52 businesses and organisations across 13 different categories.

Zut, Jot and Maray join Kitsune, Igoo and Mowgli among the other eye-catching nominees on the list, alongside more recognisable names such as Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse, LEAF Tea Shop and Sefton Park Palm House.

Organiser Morecrofts Solicitors received the highest-ever number of nominations for the awards, which are now in their fifth year. The full shortlist is detailed below.

Alison Lobb, managing partner of Morecrofts Solicitors, said: “The MIB Awards continue to go from strength to strength, demonstrating that there is a real appetite to shout even louder about the achievements of our independent business sector.

“Every year, we are amazed by the breadth of entrepreneurial talent in the region and their relentless pursuit of improvement and success. There is so much to be proud of in our city region and the MIB Awards encapsulates that perfectly.”

Bill Addy, chief executive of Liverpool BID Company, who are headline sponsors of the awards, formed part of the first round judging panel. He said: “ One of the main priorities for Liverpool BID Company is to champion the voice of our levy payers, and create the right environment for them to succeed, whether a retailer, restaurant owner, or legal and financial service.

“The BID areas on and around Bold Street, Church Street, Castle Street, Metquarter and the Cavern Quarter are home to some incredible independent businesses. Like our annual Independents’ Week celebration in the summer, the MIB Awards is a wonderful opportunity to congratulate them and raise their profile in the local community. Their continued success is vital to Liverpool’s growing economy.

“I must add that it was a tough selection process due to the high quality of the applications submitted from our thriving independent business community.”

The winners of each category will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Rum Warehouse, Titanic Hotel in Liverpool on Thursday 12 October.
