Celebration of tourism at Liverpool City Region awards

THE Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards has recognised the brightest and best tourism businesses in the region at a sell-out event at St George’s Hall. A total of 18 awards were handed out on the night in celebration of an incredible year for the region’s visitor economy. Paul Askew from The Art School scooped the final award of the evening for outstanding contribution to tourism in the region. He was rewarded for his years of dedication to the tourism industry. Paul has been credited with giving hundreds of young people their first opportunity to work in the catering sector. The Art School recently won the Taste of England award at the Visit England Awards. Liverpool’s Biennial took home the Large Tourism Event of the Year Award for their memorable 14 week arts programme . Pullman Liverpool was named Best Newcomer to the Visitor Economy. The four-star hotel on the waterfront opened its doors in February 2016. Knowsley Safari was named Large Visitor Attraction of the Year with Liverpool Watersports Centre picked up the award for the Small Visitor Attraction of the Year. The Club House and Lunya, both located within Liverpool ONE, were recognised with awards for Bar of the Year and Taste Liverpool respectively. The coveted People’s Choice Award, sponsored by British Music Experience and Liverpool City Council, went to The Beatles Story. Speaking on the night, chair of the Liverpool City Region Visitor Economy Board Sara Wilde McKeown said, “Tonight has been a truly remarkable celebration of the city region’s thriving tourism sector. “Each of the 18 categories were highly contested showcasing the incredible strength in depth that this region has to offer. “Congratulations to all our winners as well as our shortlisted businesses and individuals.” The evening, which is organised by Eventful  in conjunction with Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership, was hosted by Claire Simmo and Jay Hynd.
