MCM Liverpool Comic Con Announces First Celebrity Guests

SAM J. JONES, best known for playing the iconic hero of 1980 sci-fi classic Flash Gordon, is the latest special guest to be announced for MCM Liverpool Comic Con, which returns to Exhibition Centre Liverpool on 11-12 March following last year’s successful debut.After getting his big break in Dudley Moore rom-com 10, Jones was cast as intergalactic champion Flash Gordon in Mike Hodges’ film adaptation of the famous comic, sharing the screen with Melody Anderson as female lead Dale Arden, Max von Sydow as Emperor Ming the Merciless and Brian Blessed, who gives a barnstorming performance as Prince Vultan.Featuring an over-the-top, camp style reminiscent of the famous ‘60s Batman TV series and backed by a memorable rock soundtrack by Queen, Flash Gordon has become a cult favourite with sci-fi and comic book fans alike, with director Edgar Wright and comic artist Alex Ross numbered amongst its many fans.In fact, Flash Gordon’s status as a pop culture icon remains strong to this day, with Sam J. Jones recently called on to make extended cameos in hit Seth MacFarlane comedy Ted and its 2015 sequel (complete with his blond Flash Gordon hairdo). Other guest appearances over the years include Stargate SG-1, Baywatch, Walker: Texas Ranger and The A-Team.Trina Nishimura, who voices female lead Mikasa Ackerman in global phenomenon Attack On Titan, has also been announced and will be the guest of MyM magazine when Liverpool Comic Con returns. The award-winning voice actor will be on the MyM stand signing free autographs with a purchase of the latest issue of the magazine.As well as playing Eren Jaeger’s fiercely-protective adopted sister Mikasa in Attack On Titan, Trina Nishimura’s roles include Lan Fan in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Kurisu Makise in Steins;Gate, Seira Kazuno in Love Live!
