UK Festival Award For Sound City

SOUND City has picked up the prestigious award for ‘The Best Festival for Emerging Talent’ at The UK Festival Awards; an award that recognises the work the festival put in to giving unsigned bands a platform to showcase their talent and the opportunities they provide to upcoming artists.

Sound City announced its annual Apply to Play programme recently and has already received a record number of applications from a record number of countries around the world.

With a spectacular show promised by the organisers for Sound City’s 10th anniversary celebrations next May, applications from emerging acts has rocketed to almost double the amount at this time last year prompting the festival to extend the deadline into the new year.

Bands, DJs and musicians now have until 25th January 2017 to fill out the online form at the Sound City website to be in with a chance to play at the biggest and best Sound City to date.

Sound City CEO Dave Pichilingi said: “Supporting, nurturing and promoting new talent is what we are all about – it’s in Sound City’s DNA. Our renowned Apply to Play programme has been a cornerstone of the festival since the very beginning and we’re proud of some of the acts that have come through from Grimes to Ed Sheeran. One of our headliners last May – Catfish and the Bottlemen – appeared at Sound City via Apply to Play a mere four years ago and look where they are now – it just goes to show how important a springboard Sound City can be for emerging acts.”

Sound City has already received in excess of 3500 applications from 35 countries around the world. For the first time ever the festival has received applications from Istanbul and Auckland.

Dave added: “Receiving so many applications from this many different nations is really testament to the reputation of Sound City and of Liverpool as a global hub of fresh talent. This city has always been an inspiration and a hotbed of new music and we’re proud to keep the torch held high.”
