MAGHULL Wind Orchestra is to take a leading role in a major festival of music organised by one of the UK’s top musical organisations. MWO, the community band based at Maghull Town Hall, is providing the majority of musicians due to perform at a concert of massed bands, organised by the British Association of Symphonic Bands and Wind Ensembles (BASBWE) at Scarisbrick Hall School near Southport on Saturday (November 26th) at 7.30pm. Nearly a hundred musicians from MWO will be taking part, along with around 70 from various other bands. The programme includes original music by two of the North West’s leading composers, Andy Scott and Michael Betteridge, and a new piece specially composed for MWO by Merseyside composer Adam Roberts. Most of the musicians will return to the school on Sunday for a day of workshops and practice sessions. Tickets for the concert on Saturday are only available online, in advance. They can be purchased from: www.scarisbrickhallschool.info/tickets, adults £10, concessions £6. Phil Shotton, musical director of MWO, said: “This is a massive event for the band and shows how well-respected MWO has become outside our own local area.” More information at www.maghullwindorchestra.co.uk
