Dingle Church Celebrating 150 Years

ST. CLEOPAS in Dingle is celebrating its 150th anniversary next month with a Festival of Faith. Various events are planned for the second half of October including an exhibition of old photographs and memorabilia and the church’s wedding registers. The church is keen to receive more memorabilia from the area, whether permanently or on loan, so if you’ve got anything, get in touch with them via the links below, or pop into the church’s café on Mill Street which is open Monday to Friday. The opening service of the festival takes place with Vicar David Gavin on the 16th. On the following Tuesday L8 Sings and the Sailors’ Chapel Band will be performing at the church from 7.30 to 9.30pm, this is followed on the 20th by an afternoon tea dance from 2-4pm. On Sunday 23rd the 11am service will be taken by the Bishop of Liverpool Paul Bayes. A very special event takes place on Tuesday the 25th as the church recreates Robin’s Breakfast with Y Kids from 10.45-1pm. Robin’s Breakfast used to take place annually and gave all of the poor children of the parish a breakfast on Christmas Day. In 1924 they catered for 500 children but by 1930 it had gone up to 1000! Continuing in that tradition, the church’s Food Hub is open the following day. On Thursday 27th, the church hosts the Black Gospel Choir and Youth Band from 7.30-9.30pm. The Festival of Faith comes to a close with the Sunday service on 30 October led by Bill Bygroves. Further information can be found on Facebook: stcleopaschurch or at www.stcleopaschurch.weebly.com
