A LIVERPOOL restaurant is staking a claim to the classic British fish and chips and believe it or not, it’s Italian. According to the award-winning Duke Street eatery, fish and chips was brought over to the British Isles by Venetian immigrants. To celebrate, Il Forno will launch a Fish and Fizz special this September. On selected dates, starting Friday 16 September, diners can enjoy freshly battered fish, chunky chips, mushy peas and a glass of Prosecco all for just £10. Head Chef Paolo Cillo said: “We pride ourselves on being one of Liverpool’s most authentic Italian restaurants, so British dishes are not something we specialise in. “However, upon learning that fish and chips are in fact Italian, we just had to start serving them. “We challenge anyone who thinks us Italians can’t serve proper fish and chips to come sample ours!” Il Forno’s Fish and Fizz offer is available from 12noon and pre-booking is advisable considering the popularity of the offer so far.
