‘Park Run Paint Fun’ To Say Thanks To Lifesaving Hospital

A MAN whose wife underwent a life-saving heart operation in Liverpool has signed up for a charity 5k colour dash and family fun day to raise money for the hospital that saved her life.

As a ‘thank you’ to Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital (LHCH), Marc Flackett, aged 33, is set to take part in the hospital charity’s first ‘In Living Colour’ run and is calling on others to join in the fun.

He hopes to raise valuable funds to support the work of the specialist heart and chest hospital, one of the largest in the country, where his wife, Laura, was treated for a faulty heart valve and aortic aneurysm.

The couple, from Wrexham, discovered the problem during a routine check-up for their IVF treatment. Laura, 30, a primary school teacher in Rhyl, was immediately referred to LHCH to have a carbon valve fitted and to have the aneurysm removed.

Marc, an IT Technician for Flintshire County Council, said: “The day of the operation was one of the hardest and most worrying days of my life.

“But thanks to the skill of her aortic surgeon, Miss Deborah Harrington, and the rest of the surgical team, Laura came through the procedure successfully – although we found out later on that the aneurysm had actually caused a small tear which made the operation even more delicate.”

Laura was in hospital for 10 days, but as soon as she was on the road to recovery Marc started to think about ways to show his gratitude and decided to sign up for the charity’s colour-filled fun run in October.

He said: “When I heard about the event, I thought it sounded like it would put smiles on faces and so I signed up a team of four with my brother, his girlfriend and a work colleague.

“It’s a perfect way for us to show our thanks, raise as much money as possible and we can’t wait to have a great day out getting covered in paint!”

The LHCH Charity ‘In Living Colour’ 5k family fun run is taking place on Sunday 9th October in Stanley Park, Liverpool. For more information or to book a place, visit or call the charity office on 0151 600 1409.
