STAFF at Liverpool Marriott Hotel have taken part in a nationwide fundraising event to cover the distance between London and Rio de Janeiro, to raise money for charity. Over the course of the day, employees from the housekeeping, kitchen and front of house teams covered 856 miles. Some travelled by foot for nine miles through the city centre, while others peddled the miles away over the Wirral, catching the ferry to cover as much distance as possible. The initiative was also supported by the hotel’s leisure club members, who contributed a massive 133km of cycling and jogging. In total, 42 associates took part to raise £561 for The Prince’s Trust. Liverpool Marriott is one of many Marriott hotels across the country to take part in covering the 5,700 miles distance between London and Rio de Janeiro as a combined effort; in celebration of the upcoming Olympics. Ludwig Duweke, general manager at Liverpool Marriott Hotel said: “I’m incredibly proud of all the staff for demonstrating how much charity work means to Marriott. The Prince’s Trust does absolutely fantastic work every year and we’re thrilled to be able to contribute in any way we can. “Our leisure club members who took part did a brilliant job and there was so much encouragement shared amongst everyone involved. A massive thank you to all of those who sponsored us, it makes initiatives like this really count.” The Prince’s Trust works with young people all over the country in order to offer support for a range of different issues. The charity excels in protecting vulnerable youths aged between nine and 30, and assisted over 56,000 young people last year alone.
