BUSINESSES on Binns Road Industrial Estate, Liverpool will relocate to a new purpose built industrial park later this year, when The Derwent Group completes the first phase of the new Liverpool Shopping Park. Work has already started on site to create the new £100m Liverpool Shopping Park, which spans the former Edge Lane Retail Park and includes the land currently occupied by Binns Road Industrial Estate. All of the Binns Road businesses will move to the new purpose built industrial and trader counter units, which will be known as Rathbone Trade Park. Totalling 32,000 sq ft of industrial and trade counter space, The Derwent Group is building 20 units and a few are still available to let. The site is accessed from Mill Lane opposite the Rathbone Hospital. The Derwent Group’s appointed contractor, Caddick Construction cleared the site and began the erection of steel work earlier this month. The new units will be complete by December with businesses expected to move in from the end of the year. David Lyons, group chief executive of The Derwent Group said: “By creating these new units we’re not only giving local businesses new and improved facilities but freeing up the land we need to deliver our vision for Liverpool Shopping Park. “We are investing £100m in Liverpool, bringing an extensive retail and leisure offer to this part of the city and delivering multiple regeneration benefits including the creation of more than 3000 jobs. The relocation of these businesses is integral to our regeneration plan and we’re delighted that all tenants will move to the new facilities. Work is progressing very well on site.” Lisa Byrne, managing director of Wavertree Electrical, which will relocate to the new Rathbone Trade Park said: “We’ve been based in this part of the city for a long time so it was important for us to stay local. The move lets us take advantage of new facilities and gives us much more space, plus, by moving we’re doing our bit to support regeneration in the area. That can only be a good thing.” Derek Burman of Elegant Bedrooms, who will also be relocating, said: “We are excited about this move which helps us grow our business and double the space we currently have. We are long established in the area and are looking forward to seeing the area redeveloped.” Described as ‘the final piece of Liverpool’s retail puzzle’, Liverpool Shopping Park will total 727,000 sq ft of mixed-use commercial development and comprise 41 retail units, parking for 1500 cars and a significant leisure offer. The site spans the current Edge Lane Retail Park as well as the site located across the junction of Rathbone Road and Edge Lane, which was home to Subway and the former Blockbuster store.
