WITH the school holidays just around the corner, Wirral Sailing Centre is gearing up for a busy summer of watersports. The centre, which leads activities on West Kirby Marine Lake, is offering a range of courses and one-off sessions including paddle boarding, kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and power boating. Special Splash! sessions for children aged 6-8 years old are designed to introduce young people to watersports, and multi-activity courses run from Monday to Friday until the end of August, offering 5 half or full days of events for juniors. There are also special ‘Ladies Who Launch’ sessions on Wednesdays from 5pm – 7.30pm, suitable for all abilities. Cllr Ann McLachlan, Cabinet Member for Transformation, Leisure and Culture said: ‘West Kirby Marine Lake is a resource that is almost unique not only to the UK, but welcomes visitors from right across the world. We are very lucky to have such a well-maintained and well-used facility, and the summer programme is a great chance, particularly for young people to learn about sailing. ‘We are pledged to offer leisure and cultural opportunities for all as part of our 2020 council plan, and watersports develops a strong sense of discipline. Of course it’s also fun just to get out and enjoy the water.’ For more information on events and activities at Wirral Sailing Centre, visit www.wirral.gov.uk/watersports, call 0151 625 3292 or go to the Facebook page: www.facebook.com/westkirbymarinelake.
