LIVERPOOL Carnival Company has revealed its programme of live music for the main stage at Brazilica 2016.
Derby Square in the heart of the city’s Commercial District will be transformed into a sizzling hotbed of colourful carnival action as Liverpool’s International Samba Festival takes over the area on Saturday 16 July.
From midday until 10pm, the main stage at Derby Square will feature bands playing samba, Brazilian funk, gafieira, forro, bossa nova, with Brazilian DJs and samba dance shows thoughout the day.
You can also sample Brazilian food, soft drinks, caipirinhas and Brazilian beer from the stalls around the square.
Bands on stage include Tribo Gafieira, Afrosamba, Winnie Nogueira Band, Morro 16, Oya Batacuda, Samba Masala and many more.
The Winnie Noguiera Band are really excited to be performing at the Brazilica Festival adding to what has been a very memorable year for the band. In February, Wynnie’s new single Ferrari was released which will be followed by other singles later this year.
Singer Wynnie said: “I’m looking forward to Brazilica and to visiting Liverpool for the first time. I feel like the public has received me well and I am very excited about what’s going on. We’re constantly working to bring enjoyable and high quality music to everyone. There are many good things happening and 2016 is already a memorable year for me.”
Brazilica’s favourites Afrosamba will also return for 2016. Afrosamba is a Brazilian band covering styles such as Afro Brazilian Jazz, Samba and Bossa Nova. Based in the UK, the group is fronted by Brazilian born, Pilo Adami and comprises seasoned musicians from Mozambique, Brazil and the UK.
The crowds can also listen to the beat of Samba Masala, Oya Batucada, Katumba and Morro16, as well as bopping to Brazilian DJs Luiz and Fabio and enjoying dance shows throughout the day.

The UK’s largest Samba Carnival event, Brazilica has become one of the flagship events of the year in Liverpool’s festival calendar. A colourful celebration of Brazilian music, dance, culture, food and sport, it attracts over 60,000 visitors to the city centre.
There is a packed programme of events leading up to the main Carnival Day on the Saturday including a Brazilian Film Festival and a Fringe Festival with exhibitions and workshops, with artists visiting from Sao Paulo. There will also be samba performances in Church Street on Saturday, 16th and 17thJuly during the afternoons.
Also, don’t miss the spectacular night-time Carnival Parade which features samba bands from across the UK and overseas will remain the main festival highlight, thousands of people line the route which makes its way from Abercromby Square through the city centre streets with this year’s parade ending Derby Square.
