THIS summer MDI are running two children’s summer schools at Studio 24. No previous experience is necessary as their team of experienced dance artists will guide them through 5 days of workshops and at the end of the final day there will be an opportunity for the group to show off what they have learnt during the week.
Tingalayo is MDI’s popular weeklong summer school for 5 to 12 year olds from all backgrounds. Led by Esme Benjamin, these fun and energetic sessions use music and dance to give kids the opportunity to explore African Caribbean dance and develop their understanding of African Caribbean culture.
Esme began dancing in Leicester at Dixon-Woods School of dance. She then went on to continue her training at London Studio Centre joining the contemporary company Intoto in her final year. Since graduating she has been working and performing with various companies in different disciplines including, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Hip-Hop and Contemporary/Contemporary African. Her work has taken her all over the world and she is now based in London with Contemporary African Company, Movement Angol.
Dance stars is a week of fun and inclusive street dance sessions led by experienced dance artists Paul Doyle and Donna Unwin. Each session will develop the children’s physical skills and work towards a performance to present in the final session
