LIVERPOOL’S Lioness, Alex Greenwood, has been announced as the guest of honour at this year’s Sefton Sports Awards ceremony. The 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup Bronze Medal Winner will attend the 15th annual celebration of local sport in Southport, discussing a career which has seen her play for both Everton and Liverpool. A key performer in the Women’s England team that captured the hearts and minds of the nation last year, Alex has 24 international caps to her name. Having risen through the ranks at Everton, the exciting versatile player was the recipient of the FA Young Player of the Year award in the 2011/12 season before a brief move away from Merseyside in 2014 to play for Notts County. In January 2016, as part of landmark deal in Women’s Football, Greenwood signed for Liverpool Ladies, returning to her home city and the club she has supported since childhood. Alex Greenwood said: “I am delighted to be Guest of Honour at the Sefton Sports Awards this year. “These awards are a fantastic way of celebrating the achievements of children, schools and clubs across the borough and encourage young people to follow their dreams in sport. “I look forward to meeting everyone on the day.” The event, organised by Active Sefton which is part of Sefton Council’s Health and Wellbeing portfolio, takes place at Southport Theatre and Convention Centre on Wednesday, July 13. Nominations can be made online via sefton.gov.uk/seftonsportsawards and the deadline for entries has been extended to Monday, June 13. Winners in selected categories of the Sefton Sports Awards go on to be nominated at the Merseyside Sporting Champions Dinner.
