Liverpool Women Urged To Join Race For Life

LIVERPOOL women looking for a new fitness challenge are being urged to kick-start their training for Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. With warmer weather on its way, women of all ages, shapes and sizes have the perfect opportunity to get out in the fresh air and prepare for their 5k, 10k or Pretty Muddy event. By signing up for Race for Life, alongside their mums, daughters, sisters and friends, participants will have a goal to aim for in terms of getting fitter and raising money for life-saving research. That’s why Cancer Research UK is calling on women in Liverpool to pull on their leggings, limber up and sign up now for the 5k, 10k or Pretty Muddy event over the weekend of July 2 and 3 at Sefton Park. Jennifer Ward, Cancer Research UK’s Liverpool’s Event Manager, said: “Every day, more than 110 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West*. That’s why we’re urging local ladies to lace up their trainers and join us at the starting line. “Race for Life events are not competitive. They are not about being the fittest or the fastest. Taking part is about being part of a collective force of powerful women leading the charge against cancer. Whether you’re a running pro or novice, every step you take will help bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.” Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco for the past 15 years, is an inspiring women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy and Marathon events which raises millions of pounds every year to fund research to help beat 200 types of cancer. Last year, Race for Life Pretty Muddy took place for the first time in the city.  The new women-only, non-competitive 5k obstacle course – with mud – received a whole-hearted welcome from the thousands of women who took part and places are going quickly at this year’s event. This year, organisers need 14,350 women and girls to stride out to help raise over £600,000 to help save more lives. Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across the North West. Jennifer continued: “There’s no better time to set yourself a new fitness challenge, enjoy the great outdoors and get your blood pumping at Race for Life. Our aim is that one day everyone will beat this devastating disease and the more research we fund, the sooner that day will come. The pink army needs you so we urge women to sign up today.” To enter Race for Life today go to raceforlife.org or call 0300 123 0770.
