LIVERPOOL Central has achieved the highest score for satisfaction among all major stations in the UK, beating several flagship stations including London St Pancras, Bath Spa and Birmingham Moor Street, with a score of 97 per cent. This is the best Merseyrail has ever achieved for Liverpool Central and one percentage point above the figure we got following its re-opening after a major overhaul in October 2012.
The result has been published by Transport Focus as part of their most recent bi-annual National Rail Passenger Survey (autumn 2015). In that poll, Merseyrail was awarded 93 per cent for overall satisfaction, the highest score among all franchised rail operators.
With 15 million passengers per year, Liverpool Central has by far the highest footfall on the Merseyrail network and is one of the busiest stations outside London. In 2012, it underwent a £20 million refurbishment to enhance access, ease passenger flows on the platforms and make the station lighter, brighter and more attractive.
Jan Chaudhry-van der Velde, Merseyrail’s managing director, commented: ‘Since its makeover a few years ago, Liverpool Central is now a much better looking station and more pleasant for the millions of passenger that use it each year.
‘Customer satisfaction is also a reflection of the high quality teams of staff and managers who work tirelessly to create a consistently good experience for station users. It’s great to get this recognition and we will continue working with partners, Network Rail and Merseytravel to deliver a world-class experience for our passengers in the region.’
Cllr Liam Robinson, chair of Merseytravel, said: ‘Enhancing the customer experience is one of our priorities, and customers are clearly benefiting from a high quality service, thanks to investment into Liverpool Central.
‘This also shows that the close working relationship between Merseytravel, Merseyrail and Network Rail continues to deliver and recognition direct from our customers is priceless.’
