The Chinese-born baritone began the 2014-2015 season with his debut at the Metropolitan Opera. He was introduced by the most significant opera newspapers and on the cover of the October edition of Opera News as a rising star. Following the success of the recent Ekaterina Lekhina concert in the city, Wang gives his inaugural British concert at St George’s Hall on Sunday 24 January 2016. Yunpeng Wang was about to graduate from the Central Conservatory in Beijing when he sang at a local dinner party that was attended by the Dean of Manhattan School of Music, who invited him to come to New York to study on a full scholarship. Wang described the offer to Opera News as “an absolute miracle”. He gives a number of concerts worldwide and has been invited as special guest at many Plácido Domingo concerts. The young artist received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, and a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from The Manhattan School of Music. Co-founder of the Liverpool Opera Four Seasons, Hungarian-born actor Gyula Mesterházy said: “We are delighted to announce Yunpeng Wang in our second concert in the series and also that the special guest will be the Europe-wide famous soprano Ingrid Kertesi. This celebrated artist sings in the Comic Opera in Berlin, the Wiener Staatsoper and is lead soprano of the Budapest Opera among others. We are delighted that the acclaimed Liverpool pianist, David Walters will again be the accompanist for the concert.” Honorary chairman of the Liverpool Opera Four Seasons, Dr Andrew Zsigmond said: “I am confident that this ground-breaking series of operas will pave the way for Liverpool to become the Opera Capital of the North. That’s our ambition. The tremendous response from the audience at the Ekaterina Lekhina concert in October is proof of the public demand for more high quality opera. Yunpeng Wang should not be missed.” EVENT DETAILS The Liverpool Opera – Four Seasons Featuring Yunpeng Wang The Concert Room, St George’s Hall, St George’s Place, Liverpool, L1 1JJ Entrance via North Hall (opposite Walker Art Gallery) Sunday, 24.
