THE date for the Sefton Sports Awards has been set and the region’s sporting stars and unsung heroes will be celebrated once more.
The awards will once again be held at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre on Wednesday, July 12.
Organised by Active Sefton, which is part of Sefton Council’s Health and Wellbeing portfolio, the awards this year will feature guest of honour, Paralympian Lora Fachie.
Born with a hereditary sight condition, para-cyclist Lora lost her sight at the age of 5. Lora won Paralympic gold with Corrine Hall at Rio 2016, and is also a two-time world champion on the road. Add to that a silver and bronze medal in the pursuit at the Track World Championships.
Tina Pilkington, Development Manager at Sefton Council, said: “We’re so pleased to welcome Lora as our guest speaker. I’ve no doubt that this brilliant athlete and role model will inspire the youngsters at the event.
“The awards night is always a wonderful celebration and we’re certain this will once again be a night to remember.
“If you know a volunteer or coach who has given up their time to support others or a sports club or person that has been really successful, we urge you to submit a nomination.”
